About Us

In 2014, Doug Short (40 year CEO) moved BeniComp Health Solutions to Tampa, FL and established our new headquarters in the heart of the city’s Well District. His goal: to transform healthcare for the social good.

A brief history: In 1980, Doug took over the company from his father who originally founded our organization in 1962 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. A visionary from the get-go, Doug set out to revolutionize the way healthcare is utilized in our country.

After several decades of experiencing the shortcomings and heartache of the industry, Doug dedicated his life to developing solutions that would actually improve health, lower costs, and drive transparency in the health insurance space. He launched our first product in 2000 that empowered employees to take a preventive approach toward their health with a focus on data and lifestyle. Our solutions were recognized by SHRM and the State of Arkansas for improving the health of populations and decreasing group health costs by commanding an unprecedented 96% participation rate in a preventive health management program. This product was called BeniComp Advantage and later became known as IncentiCare in 2018.

As decades rolled by, it became clear that the path toward the future was paved with technology. Doug asked Steve Presser to join the company in 2014 as CSO. Steve had been building a technology platform to help organizations manage the health of populations. Short and Presser are like two puzzle pieces that fit together perfectly to create a complete picture of the future of health insurance-- a true health solution. At the end of last year (2019) Doug proudly named Steve the new President of BeniComp.

In 2019, the breakthrough occurred when we officially launched a new version of IncentiCare. It was at this time that we changed our name from BeniComp Insurance Company to BeniComp Health Solutions to reflect our mission to empower people with actionable health solutions through prediction, prevention, and industry leading technology.

Today, our team continues to blaze a new path, revealing the hidden secrets of the health insurance industry and leveraging an in-house development team to create tech products that solve challenges facing both employers and individuals. We love the innovation and culture of our community here in Tampa and therefore prioritize our involvement in our own backyard. We believe in the importance of collaboration and are actively focused on establishing a proof-of-concept model for population health and empowering Tampa’s growing workforce with sustainable healthcare.
